Do you have clothes + accessories lying around that you don’t wear often? Instead of letting them collect dust, try hosting or attending a style swap!

What’s a style swap?

A style swap is a super fun event in which people get together and share gently-used clothing, jewelry, shoes, accessories, beauty products, and more.

It’s a green way to renew your wardrobe–out with the old and in with the new–new to you!

I attended a Compassionate Style Swap today, co-hosted by Ashlee Piper, an eco-vegan fasion + beauty extraordinaire, and Trisha Star, a stylist, natural vegan beauty expert, and salon owner.

The swap was held at Starship Salon, Chicago’s only cruelty-free + vegan-friendly salon!

It was loads of fun! We weren’t just swapping–we were also sipping fun mimosas, chowing down on vegan snacks, and getting complimentary make-up tutorials + even some fun hair play!

We also received some delightful swag bags, check out these great vegan products:

Kevin Murphy Maxi Wash: detoxifying pre-shampoo with fruit acids to help remove build-up

North Coast Organics Death By Lavender Deoderant: totally natural, aluminum-free, and smells amazing

Max Green Alchemy Scalp Rescue Shampoo: 100% organic plant ingredients with tea tree oil

Bitter Betty Bath Soap Bar: locally-made, small-batch vegan soap

You don’t have to be a salon owner or fashionista to host a successful swap–just get your family, friends, and friends-of-friends together and host a swap at your home!

I first hosted one of these when I was in college, paired with my first compassionate Thanksgiving potluck–it was wonderful! We had people of all ages, shapes, and sizes attend. It’s fun to pair a swap with something else like a girls’ wine night, book club, game night, etc.

You could extrapolate on the style swap idea and swap other things like household items (don’t like the smell of that candle your aunt got you for your birthday?), baby clothes (moms pretty much do this constantly anyway), books (are you really going to read that again?), or whatever else your heart desires!
